Are you the type of person that craves deeper connections, more meaningful experiences and finds themselves getting lost or bored in surface conversations? If so, you might want to see how your answer to this question applies to the therapeutic work you do with your counselor...
My previous blog post addressed different things to consider when finding the right therapist for you! This post will expand on one of those points. When looking for a therapist it's important to make sure that their approach and orientation to the therapeutic process meets your needs and goals. I'm going to share more about my approach and the importance of doing the deeper therapeutic work.
First, if you haven't realized this about me yet, I'm an integrative and holistic therapist. This basically means that I value the importance of looking at a person as a whole unit, not just a series of symptoms and problems. We explore how your stress level, nutrition, relationships, self-care, work life, family life and health issues all impact how you feel. So, when I work with clients, I am attentive to address each of these areas as well as identifying ways that we can improve your day to day interactions and overall distress levels. Then, the real fun begins! You're probably thinking, fun - really? To me, diving deeper is a transformative process that really helps create permanent and lasting change! Sure, we all want our daily symptoms and distress to decrease but don't you want to address the root cause of those symptoms so they don't return? Well, I do!
So, what is the deeper work? I was waiting for you to ask that questions? The deeper work in therapy really gets to the root cause of the issue you want to work on. To do this work, we get to explore how your life experiences have shaped your beliefs, values and ways of interacting with the world. Often, it involves exploring how our relationships to important people throughout our lives have influenced us as well. We uncover every stone and look around every corner. Hypnotherapy and EMDR are two powerful therapeutic tools that I love using in my work with clients and the results can be truly exceptional! I've had the opportunity to work with people who can't believe how powerful healing core issues can be in creating permanent, lasting change. I love the moment when clients come in telling me that they can't believe that they used to be bothered by X. That moment, the moment of being truly empowered and healed is what drives my passion and love for the work that I do. This work isn't for the faint at heart. Doing the deeper work challenges you to look at your life and really accept responsibility for and connect to your deepest fears and hidden secrets – to transform them. Is it worth it? You have to ask yourself that question. If you think it is, we should talk. Because really, why are you waiting to start healing and living your life to your highest potential?
